In addition to our portfolio of web and digital developments, our work as The Nest also extends to creative content development, project management and broadcasting. Our primary output for much of this activity is our sister company, ‘New Weird Australia’ – a not-for-profit record label designed to support eclectic and experimental Australian music.

NWA (as we lovingly call it) produces free digital releases of new music, presents a weekly radio show on Sydney’s FBi Radio, posts a regular podcast series and puts on experimental music gigs around the country. We recently rebuilt and redesigned the NWA site, in partnership with the project’s creative partner, Heath Killen. The relaunched site fully encompasses the new project branding and aesthetic that has been building via NWA’s various channels over the last few months. We were particularly keen to ensure that the site acted as a visual ‘shop window’ for the multiple releases and projects funnelled through the label. To that end, we constructed a full-size home page slider that carousels through relevant feature panels, as well as developing a high-impact grid layout for the site’s portfolio page. The new site can be found at newweirdaustralia.com.

In addition, we also worked with Wizzard Apps in the U.S. to develop the New Weird Australia iPhone app. The app allows you to stream NWA’s latest podcast episodes or download them directly into the app – recent episodes are automatically updated in-app, and there’s a full archive of all content stretching back to 2009. Each podcast also comes with downloadable iPhone wallpapers and the ability to share content directly in Facebook and Twitter. The New Weird Australia app is now available in the iTunes store.

UPDATE: The New Weird Australia app is now available for Android - Download at Android Zoom.
