We’re delighted to announce the launch of the official 2011 Sydney Festival iPhone app – produced & designed by The Nest.

Having delivered the design for the 2011 Sydney Festival web site, The Nest worked with the Festival to deliver the 2011 app on the iPhone platform – from initial concepts and strategy, storyboards and wireframes, design & artwork, through to delivery into the App store.

Our 2011 Sydney Festival app is an indispensable guide to the festival and features a full searchable listings of Festival events and artists and – crucially for the 250,000 revellers flocking into the city on January 8th – event information (including map & playing times) for Festival First Night. You can browse by date, A-Z of events, by category, keywords or map; find venues near to your location and ‘favourite’ events into your own planner. You can also get quick access to the 2011 Festival Blog and their (highly active!) Twitter feed. Download the app now from the Apple App Store.

Recent figures from StatCounter show that, even when excluding iPads, Apple are far and away the leading smartphone in Australia and Oceania, accounting for over 70% of all smartphone usage, with the its nearest rival (Android) accounting for just under 10%. However, we’re conscious that there’s a great deal of wind in Android’s sails and are also able to deliver on the platform – indeed, the app for New Weird Australia is now available on both iPhone and Android handsets.

With all of this very firmly in mind, The Nest is pleased to offer a full end-to-end iPhone app service for the arts & creative industries. The Nest has a second app launching later this week and a further three apps now in progress for release in 2011 – including the development of our first app for the iPad device.
