As we prepare to launch the new web site for Kaldor Public Art Projects early next year, we’re fascinated by the seemingly never-ending depths of the amazing Kaldor archive, and the gems that are revealing themselves on a daily basis. Here’s Gilbert & George from 1973, interviewed at the Art Gallery of New South Wales for ABC Television, with rare footage from their performance project ‘The Singing Sculpture’.
We also happened upon some footage of John Baldessari from the same year. Baldessari is the artist behind the next Kaldor Public Art Project – ‘Your Name In Lights‘ – which opens at the Sydney Festival on 8th January. In this footage below, described as “one of Baldessari’s most ambitious and risky efforts”, he sings each of fellow artist Sol LeWitt’s 35 “conceptual statements” to the tune of a ‘pop hit’ from the day. Much like the Xmas Album from the cast of Glee, only somewhat more cerebral.
